Electric furnace is an important process equipment in steelmaking industry.
During the smelting process, it is necessary to deliver tens of kiloamperes or even hundreds of kiloamperes of strong current into the furnace. Such a large current is delivered by short-circuit network.
Furnace busbar is also called heavy current line, which refers to the general term for the current carrier from the secondary output terminal of the transformer to the electrode (including the electrode).
Composition of Furnace Busbar
The heavy current line components are divided into the following parts:
1) Compensator: connects the low-voltage end of the furnace transformer with the fixed part of the furnace busbars.
2) Busbar: the longest fixed part of the short-circuit network, which may be a rectangular copper bar or a water-cooled copper tube.
3) Fixed connection seat: used to connect the water-cooled flexible cable from the busbar to the short-circuit network and transmit current.
4) Water-cooled flexible cable: used to transmit current from the fixed connection seat to the movable connection seat that moves with the electrode holder,
5) Movable connection seat-used to connect the water-cooled flexible cable and the electrode holder
6) Conductor and lead structure of the electrode holder.
7) Electrode holder chuck: used to transmit current from the electrode holder conductor to the electrode and prevent the electrode from falling.
8) Electrode.

a. Large current.
Strong currents of tens of kiloamperes or even hundreds of kiloamperes flowing through the short circuit conductor will inevitably form a strong magnetic field around the short circuit conductor, which will cause great power loss in the short circuit conductor and the steel components around it, causing heating.
b. Short length.
The entire short circuit length of a large furnace does not exceed 20 meters. Since the short circuit loss is very large, its length should be shortened as much as possible during design, especially the length of the water-cooled flexible cable, so as to minimize the loss of the short circuit.
C. Complex structure.
The structure and shape of each section of the short circuit conductor are different, and the number of parallel conductors is different and the arrangement is also different. Therefore, when designing the short circuit, it is necessary to consider the influence of skin effect and proximity effect, select the conductor cross-section according to the specified current density, and pay attention to the reasonable configuration of the conductor, the best transposition, so that the effective inductance is minimized, the current of each conductor is balanced, and the parameters of each phase are as close as possible.
d. Harsh working environment.
The short circuit conductor works in a harsh environment with extremely high temperature and a lot of conductive dust.
The electrical parameters of the short-circuit play a decisive role in the normal operation of the furnace. The productivity, lining life, power loss and power factor of the furnace are largely determined by the selection of the electrical parameters of the short-circuit.
A reasonable short-circuit design must ensure the stable burning of the furnace arc, with minimum power loss, high power factor, and three-phase power balance. The resistance and reactance of the short-circuit must be the minimum reasonable value, the three-phase impedance must be balanced, and the material use of the short-circuit structure must be as economical as possible, especially the consumption of non-ferrous metals must be as small as possible, maintenance must be simple, and operation must be reliable.
