   Electric furnace is an important process equipment in the steelmaking industry. During the smelting process, it is necessary to deliver strong currents of tens or even hundreds of kiloamperes into the furnace. Such large currents are transmitted through short networks. Short network, also known as high current line, refers to the general term for the carrier fluid from the secondary output terminal of a transformer to the electrode (including the electrode).

Short network composition

1) Compensator - Connect the low voltage end of the furnace transformer to the fixed part of the short network.
2) Busbar - the longest fixed part of the short net, which may be a rectangular copper bar or a water-cooled copper tube.
3) Fixed connection socket - used to connect water-cooled flexible cables from busbar to short network and transmit current.
4) Water cooled flexible cable - used to transmit current from a fixed connector to a same electrode holder

1.large current
      The strong current flowing through the short network conductor (copper busbar tube) will inevitably form a strong magnetic field around the short network conductor and cause significant power loss in the short network conductor and surrounding steel components. Conductors cause heat generation.

2.Short length
     The entire short network (copper busbar) length of a large furnace shall not exceed 20m. Due to the high loss of short networks, their length should be shortened as much as possible during design, especially the length of water-cooled flexible cables, to minimize the loss of short networks.

3.Complex structure
    The different conductors in the short network (water-cooled busbar tube) have different structures, shapes, parallel conductor quantities, and arrangement methods. Therefore, the design of the busbar system should consider the effects of skin effect and proximity effect, and select the conductor cross-section according to the specified current density. At the same time, attention should be paid to the reasonable configuration and optimal transposition of conductors to minimize effective inductance, balance the current of each conductor, and make the phase parameters as close as possible.

4.Poor working environment
     The water-cooled high current bus conductor operates in harsh environments with high temperatures and high levels of conductive dust.
